Robocalls appear to offer free medical equipment

Recently several reports covering the entire USA have emerged of a scam which is targeting seniors. The way it works is for a robocall - an automatic phone calling system - to call a number and play a message purporting to offer free medical equipment. When the receiver of this call answers, or otherwise indicates they are present, they ultimately are asked for credit card details.

Classic scare tactics are used, such as warnings of injury or death if the "offer" is not taken up.

Jim Hegarty, President and CEO of BBB offered this advice:

Never, ever, give out your personal information over the phone to an unknown party. Be sure your telephone number is listed on the Do Not Call Registry.
